GRACE AND GRAPHIC DESIGN

Updated: Jun 2, 2019

Life is overwhelming. Trust me, friends, I know. I constantly find myself stressed and worried about all of the things that I need to get done. I have a long list of assignments due on Friday, one last pair of clean jeans in my closet, and a job that I am always running late to. I know how difficult life can seem and how quickly it can pass you by, especially when you want to do it all and you want to do it all perfectly. So friends, I am here to tell you, that it’s okay. It is okay to not have it all together and let me explain why.

I am a graphic designer, and as a graphic designer, I am very concerned with details and perfection. So, it makes sense that these things can sometimes bleed over into my personal life. I struggle with overcommitting and I am constantly criticizing myself to do more and to do it better. I push myself to the point of breaking and then I get up the next day and I do it all over again.

Or I use to.

But living your life by a to-do list, isn’t really living your life at all.

So instead, now, I choose grace over perfection.

God made me in His image, and that alone should be enough. When you give up control, and give in to God, everything that has been weighing you down, is now lifted. So, hold yourself to a standard of His grace, not your own. When you choose grace, you stop seeing the to-do list, and you begin to see joy. You live for the belly laughs, the random detours, and the awkward conversations. You become present, and you begin truly living this precious, precious life.

Life is overwhelming, but so is God’s love.

Live by grace, not by perfection.

“Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.”

-John 1:16
